Tinfoil Hat Feature of the Week

We've all heard the reports on the short positions taken on American Airlines and United stocks before 9/11. Now, there's news of another massive short taken by a mystery trader on the Euro top 50. It's not every day that a man places a billion dollar bet. I haven't done it since my weekend bender at the Quicktrip blackjack machine. Gosh darn it, it's enough to make me bust out my tin foil hat. And apparently, I'm not the only one.

Monetary issues

Look at this article (not the content per se but the reader comments back and forth).

While my colleague will presumably consider this source (web site) a "hack" or "neo-con driven blabber", I think it's an engaging (other than the unecessary name-calling that seems to eventually unravel) conversation in the reader comments. Pay specific attention to the comments by the author, blackhedd, Osbourne and wampuss/swamp.

Falcons Protestors

Been a long time since my last post, but boy has the conversation gotten thick around here.

This is a photo of the PETA protestors. The guy in the white shirt was demanding that the police press charges on the Vick supporters for confronting them. The cops, of course for several reasons, did not do anything.

This next one is a photo of the pro-vick supporters being escorted off. The PETA folks did not have the guts to leave thier little "pen" and go confront them.

That's it. Was really kind of funny. Like 8 year olds playing basketball on the playground.

It must be election time...

...and it just goes to show a politician is just that, a politician.

How to Spot a Hack

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?" –Sean Hannity, opposing Clinton's "humanitarian" intervention in Kosovo.

The Fed's Ponzi Scheme

It's the biggest in history, but lately there's been some catch in the gears. Money quote:

Why does the Fed feel the need to intervene at the drop of a market? The reasons have to do with an idea set firmly in place in the 1930s and expanded at every crisis up to the present. This is the notion that, while the risks inherent in the business of lending and borrowing should be finally borne by the public, the profits of that line of work should mainly accrue to the lenders and borrowers.

Update: the alternative

Giuliani on the Economy

His rhetoric is good and, unlike some other frontrunners (i.e. Fred), he has the record in NYC to back it up. My concern? His proposals don't go far enough.

Tinfoil to Houndstooth?

Recent developments out of Hoover High reported by the Bammerham news with the following snippet from an NCAA official:

Speaking generally, Kearns said the NCAA would look at academic credentials after an athlete is certified - as is the case with Chapman - if "questions or irregularities" arose. Kearns said all grade changes are reviewed by the NCAA Clearinghouse and Eligibility Center to confirm changes were made in accordance with the high school's policy. If grade changes are made "late in the game," Kearns said, the institution must file an initial eligibility waiver for the change.

"If there is evidence of academic fraud, an investigation would likely be triggered," Kearns said.

A multipolar world

Article detailing the rising clout of Russia and China. Catch-all quote:
"The Western approach of imposing its values and political system on other countries is not acceptable to China," said Africa specialist Wang Hongyi of the China Institute of International Studies. "We focus on mutual development."
Change US foreign policy? Nah.

Well, I missed last week but this should make up for it. Beer and bears don't mix.

The Failure of a Movement - Part 2

So, a McCain "operative" comments on the conservative 'movement' while ole Johnny seems to lap praise on the Hildabeast.

You know, I guess I need to take that Hannity bumper sticker off my car or maybe return those tickets to the upcoming Freedom Concert that Captain Douche is serving up. Yeah. And while I'm at it, I'll tell Stephen Green and Glenn Reynolds to pipe down too. But what is the world.....I certainly don't know because I'm closed up in the good ole USA happy bubble and have never traveled or read about any other place.

The Failure of a Movement

A McCain operative and long-time conservative activist breaks down what's happening to conservatism in this country. Best quote(s):

First, let’s be clear, American conservatism has devolved from a movement into an identity group. Identity-group conservatives have shown a shocking lack of respect for fellow conservatives who stray on a particular issue or two. I have personally had my patriotism questioned by (ex-) friends because I believe in a comprehensive approach to immigration reform. National Review infamously lambasted non-Iraq War supporting conservatives as “Unpatriotic” in 2003. A healthy movement can withstand the occasional division on key issues; a chauvinistic identity group cannot.

$63 Billion Dollar Law Suit

Tinfoil Hat Feature of the Week

It seems that some loonies are claiming that the US faces some sort of "fiscal problem". Apparently, the doom and gloomers in the wacky fringe out there think that paying for two wars, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, farm subsidies, education and corporate welfare is a bad national strategy. Even worse? There are some nutty politicians saying the same thing! Bunch of conspiracy theorists, all of 'em.

Good thing I support the status quo. Romney in 2008!
