It goes without saying that I would have liked Auburn to pull through against South Florida, but I'm just not sure how many "gut wins" one team is allowed to have. All in all though, it was another good weekend of college football. Most importantly, the Alabama Crimson Tide rolled over Vandy, exposing depth issues for the Commodores on both sides of the ball despite a number of talented playmakers. The Tide's redshirt freshman running back Terry Grant looked alot like Warrick Dunn during his days at FSU, but time will tell.
Word on the blogosphere is that Nick Saban was in Smyrna on Friday night scouting a high school football game. This guy is just relentless when it comes to recruiting. It's early, of course, but right now Alabama is the top-ranked recruiter in the SEC, and we've got a decent shot at five-star Julio Jones. Bama stands to improve tremendously on the recruiting front over last year and, with a coaching staff that can actually make use of the talent, things could get mighty interesting down at the capstone in a few years.
But anyway, on to Arkansas - McFadden's one man band. I'm not convinced we've seen all of Major Applewhite's playbook, but if John Parker Wilson doesn't shape up by Saturday, it won't make a whole helluva lot of difference. It's white-knuckle time folks. The ride's about to get a little bumpy.
